Cricket Chirp Synthesis with Praat or Audacity Freeware

You may copy and paste this expression into PRAAT (www.praat.org).

(abs(sin(x*12)) + sin(x*12))*sin(x*48)^39* sin(x*25000+50*sin(96*x - pi/2 ))

and it will soound like this...Praat-cricket

There are 3 parts to this formula

1. Create a pulse .... abs (sin (p) + sin (p)
2. Shrink the pulse to a spike ... sin (n p)^39
3. Downward frequency sweep. ... sin( fc + m * sin( fm))
